100 minutes away is the home of the Ammassalik Inuit on Greenland's beautiful East Coast. Kulusuk is the gateway to East Greenland and the small settlement is an excellent introduction to the way of life in a settlement in the Ammassalik area.
Kulusuk lies actually on a small island between rugged shaped mountains and long fjords, and is almost always surrounded by icebergs and bright Arctic Ocean. You will find some of the east coast's most skillful craftsmen, whose tupilaks are of exceptional quality. Hunting and fishing tradition are still the main source for livelihood for many families in the area.
You will see glaciers and floating icebergs. Experienced guides
will escort you from the airport to the village Kulusuk which is 3 km/1,8 mile
away. There you can stroll about and meet some of the 250 local residents and
view their quality crafts.
Weather permitting: We'll be treated to kayaking demonstrations and an ancient drum dance reflective of the indigenous culture.
On our return flight to Reykjavík we enjoy a spectacular view over glaciers and floating icebergs.
recommend that all travelers wear good walking boots (this tour requires around
6 km/3,7 miles walk). Bring warm clothes, you will find that the weather's changeableness can be quite charming when visiting Greenland.
