Þingvellir National Park - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Dramatic landscape, history and culture make Þingvellir National Park one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland.

It is where the parliament of Iceland was first founded around the year 930, where laws were passed and sentences carried out.

Tectonic plate movement has created spectacular scenery with enormous rifts and cracks slicing through the landscape and Iceland‘s lake that covers roughly 84 km2.

Erupting hot springs, bubbling mud pools and multi-colored hydrothermal features is what draws people from all corners of the world to visit this place and the one Geysir that lent all others its name.

Five stars for our tour guide Di Di! I and my two sisters enjoyed the tour a lot. It was very educative and short tour. I recommend it.

Six of us took the shorter Golden Circle tour on the 1st of Jan. Gullfoss was amazing but very dangerous to walk on the icy surface down to the falls, and above it. It was good to have lunch there also. The tour was a long drive but gave us a chance to see the small villages, farms, ponies and stark countryside in winter. The Geysir area wasn't too exciting as we'd all seen that type before. Our guide was fine...and made the long drive a bit more interesting with details. I was glad we could make the trip but think that summer/fall would be more interesting with different weather, more light and a chance to really get out & walk the sites. Thanks

Took the Golden Circle afternoon tour on January 30, 2014. The five stars are for Dee Dee our tour guide. It is obvious she enjoys what she does. She was our best guide in Reykjavik!

We had a super afternoon, the sun shone but it was freezing cold and blowing a gale. However that didn't detract from the amazing sights. The tour guide provided us with commentary about the sights we were seeing but also about the culture and history of Iceland - really informative. An excellent service being picked up and dropped off at our hotel.

With only two days in Iceland this was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, seeing the beauties of nature and learning a bit about the history of this amazing country.

Easter in Iceland is both a religious holiday and a sign that winter is over.
