AH117  Blue Ice All year round

Highlights:
  • Explore Sólheimajökull glacier
  • Skógafoss waterfall

Tour Description:

Here is your chance to visit a glacier and not just any glacier, this trip will take you to the frozen glacial tongue that is Sólheimajökull. It is a magnificent phenomenon, a rugged, raw and ever changing hub of ancient frozen water. We will explore the crevasse riddled outlet glacier with its amazing ice formations, sink holes and jagged ridges accompanied by an experienced glacier guide. Along the way we will find an ice wall on the glacier and try our hand at ice climbing. We will provide you with all the tools you need: ice axes, crampons and safety lines, making sure you are very safe as you brave the heights. As we drive back to Reykjavik we will stop at the beautiful Skógafoss waterfall.

On this trip you get to see and do what most of the population will only dream about and very few ever try. Why not be adventurous and explore the amazing crawling glacier?

We recommend hiking boots, wind and waterproof jacket and pants, headwear and gloves. Hiking boots can be rented from the tour operator.

Bring with you: Hiking boots, wind and waterproofed jacket and pants, headwear and gloves.

I love this trip so much, and think it is the best tour I have ever attended. I have never done any kinds of hiking before. Even though it seems to be too hard for me to climb to the top of the ice wall, with the kind help and encouragement of the guides, I really enjoy the ice climbing as well as the ice walking. The equipment also made me look like a professional guy.:) I really leant something about the history and the culture of the glacial, and I am very happy to recommend this trip to my friends and people who like experiencing something special and amazing in Iceland.

Great tour, probably my favourite day of out trip. The guide was really nice, and we saw lots of interesting things throughout the day. Everything about this trip was good, and the scenery on the way there and back is amazing. The Skógafoss waterfall was well worth the stop, in my opinion more interesting than Gullfoss (on the Golden Circle), and you can get much closer to it. Also if the sun is shining then there's a fair chance of a rainbow at the base of the waterfall, which is so close it seems like you could almost go into it.

I will give the Blue Ice and the Black and Blue 4 stars each. Both had a very good guide and it was a fantastic experience. The golden circle afternoon- was not exciting in the same way - it was more a must see tour and a perfect length on that tour for us. Best regards sofia

It was unforgettable experience. The glacer was impressive inspite of rainfall. The guides were careful and halpful, but at first our guide was late more then 1 hour and nobody could say what's going on, and how long we should wait. In other excursion was perfect
