 Highland Adventure - 8 days / 7 nights 1 Jul 2015 -
15 Sep 2015

Highland adventure - 7 nights accommodation, 4WD car for 8 days

Cross the highland on the route Kjölur in a jeep and drive the black sands of Sprengisandur. This itinerary is ideal for those who want to explore the interior of Iceland.

Enjoy Iceland on your own!
We take care of all the planning for you, provide you with a car of your choice, a detailed travel plan and a good road map. We also book your accomodation for you during your tour. The only thing you have to book yourself is your accomodation in Reykjavík before and after your round trip. Please note that the transfer to and from Keflavik airport is not included in the price of the tour. We recommend our private Door to Door pickup service or our Airport Express service, which can be booked seperately through our sales office.

Day 1. The South. Ca. 160 km travelled.

Explore Iceland’s famous circle of wonders “The Golden Circle”, i.e. Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall   and Geysir hot spring area. Your accommodation for the first night will be in the area.

Day 2. Kjölur. Ca. 160 km travelled.

Today you will cross the highland in the north direction on the route Kjölur. You will drive a plateau between two large glaciers, Langjökull and Hofsjökull. Stop by the geothermal area Hveravellir. The accommodation will be in Skagaförður area.

Days 3 and 4. The North. Ca. 240 km travelled.

Head for Lake Mývatn and explore the many wonders of the area. On the second day, you could go on a day tour to Askja, a highland favourite. Drive through the vast lava terrains via Herðubreiðalindir. A dip in the geothermal pool at the crater Víti is a treat. Accommodation for two nights in Mývatn area.

Day 5, Sprengisandur. Ca. 200 km travelled.

Drive the black sands of Sprengisandur back South, with rough tracks as well as crossing unbridged and unpredictable rivers. In Nýjadal, it is ideal to have a lunch break and walk in the green valley. Accommodation for this night is simple and on the outskirts of the desert.

Days 6 and 7, Landmannalaugar, The South. Ca. 100 km travelled.

Drive to Landmannalaugar. After lunch you will drive Fjallabaksleið towards Eldgjá to Kirkjubæjarklaustur, where you will stay for the next two nights. For the second day the schedule is to go on a day trip to Lakagígar. It is a 25 km row of volcanic fissure that erupted in 1783.
Please note: This trip is not recommended for very young children.

Easter in Iceland 2014
Easter in Iceland is both a religious holiday and a sign that winter is over.
